Marly's Pics

Last Sunday I went on my first birding trip. It was only for a few hours but it was AWESOME.

I met a few great people and, one of them, Marly Orrego, sent me some of the pictures she took that day to post here! All of these pictures were taken at La Arenilla (La Punta, Callao)

I want to thank Marly for letting me post her photographs.

I hope we are able to go on a birding excursion together soon, it was sooo much fun!

These gulls started to fly all of the sudden. Turns out there was a Peregrine Falcon going around, it was really amazing to see; too bad we couldn't get a good shot of the action.

Hi again Mel :-)

Great pics Marly has given you to post :-D Ah... seeing the Peregrine Falcon would have been a sight if you had seen that too!

We have the much smaller Sparrowhawk visiting at the moment and the birds are hiding in my hedge!

Those are great pictures Mel! You are fortunate to be in a place with so many shorebirds nearby. I hope you will get the chance to go on more birding trips in the future and share them with us.

Mel (and Marly)

There were more shorebirds at Poza Arenillas last weekend than at Pantanos de Villa on yesterday's excursion. However, at Pantanos de Villa we got to see Yellow-hooded Blackbird, Osprey, Peruvian Thickknee, Great Grebe and Least Bittern, so there were several that were not at Arenillas. The two sites compliment each other very well.

Hola Shirl :)
We did see the action and the Peregrine Falcon, we just couldn't photograph it or film it.
It was really amazing!

Hi Dawn!
I never saw a Whimbrel before that day, it was exciting to find them and see them.

Dear Ruthie!
I hope so too! At least I found other people interested in this over here, we are not so many, but there sure is a lot of love for the winged fellows ;)

These are stunning photos, makes me wish I'd been there. They are just gorgeous. I love the one where the sky is full of WINGS!! I love them all but that is such a rare shot. Just beautiful!! :)

Nice photos, Mel! Glad you had a good time on your bird outing. I find birders to be quite interesting folks...lots of knowledge and eager to share.

Hi, Mel, I'm so happy for you that you are now going birding more often and seeing a lot of birds!

I am reading "A Parrot Without a Name" by Don Stap and it's all about an ornithological expedition to Peru. Fascinating! I hope my wife and I can visit there someday.

Your first birding trip ever? This would make a great IATB post for my host duties tomorrow - plus I have a Peru category. Let me know if you object, otherwise I want to mention you and Peru on the next IATB.

Hola Tim,
Feel free to mention what you want :)
Love your blog, would be an honour!
